Off to court....

Just a little note to update everyone...our agency director emailed to tell us that we have entered into "family court" in Guatemala today. This could not be better news on Mario's one month birthday! At family court, it is the second time that the birth mother will have to "sign off" on the adoption. It is great news that we are moving forward through the system in Guatemala so far. We are still cautious not to get too excited, but are still optimistic.

She also told us that our paperwork was ready and we were next in line for our papers to be submitted to the buccal. This is the DNA test. This is the third and final time (I believe) that the birth mother will have to see Mario and sign off on the adoption. I am happy they are thorough with that to make sure that the mother is sure she wants to do this, but it is difficult knowing that she will see him and could possibly have a change of heart. I have seen him and cannot imagine having to make that choice. Please pray for her since these two things will be very difficult on her. I was 20 years old when I had Allison, so I guess I am extra sympathetic knowing how it felt to have a child at a young age. I know that all of you who have rocked your babies and looked into their eyes can identify with these emotions.

This all could take a while to "get through" the system, only to lead us to another system. I will let you know as things progress. We do not anticipate bringing him home until January or February. This is a realistic time line if things all go well (no kick outs, birth mother does not change her mind, etc).

We should get photos this week, so keep checking back. I am curious to see how he has grown. Thank you for all of your support through this. We are blessed.
